You can find us in a beautiful location in the harbour of Lauwersoog, between National Park Lauwersmeer, National Park Schiermonnikoog and UNESCO World Heritage Site Wadden Sea. Just a five-minute walk from the ferry to the island of Schiermonnikoog.

Route

By car

The WEC is located in the harbour of Lauwersoog and is easily accessible by car. The harbour is located on the N361, which connects Groningen to Lauwersoog. From Friesland, you can easily reach the harbour via the N358 and the N361. When you arrive at Lauwersoog, follow the signs WEC Parkeren. The car park is on the other side of the dike from the WEC. Parking in the fishing harbour is not allowed.

Dropping off passengers

Should it be necessary to drop off passengers near the WEC, this can be done in the harbour area at Restaurette Schierzicht. Passengers can disembark here and walk the last stretch to the WEC. Unfortunately, you cannot park in front. The car can then be parked in the WEC car park across the road. You can walk to the WEC in a few minutes.

By public transport

Travel in a sustainable way by public transport! Qbuzz will gladly take you to the WEC.

From Groningen, you can take line 163 (Qbuzz) to Lauwersoog, Haven. This bus departs from the main station and takes about 1 hour.
From Leeuwarden, you can take line 51 (Qbuzz) to Lauwersoog, Haven. This bus departs from Leeuwarden bus station and takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
If you are coming from further away, first travel by train to Groningen or Leeuwarden and then transfer to the correct bus.

Parking

By Car

In the harbour of Lauwersoog, follow the signs to WEC Parkeren to the WEC car park. This is the area for visitors to the WEC. The daily rate is €7.50 and can only be paid by card at the car park. Paying at the WEC and booking in advance is unfortunately not possible. From the car park, it is a few minute walk to the WEC. Follow the walking route signs to the WEC.

By Bicycle

You can park your bicycle at the racks located right in front of the WEC.

Accessible Parking

There is a disabled parking space available at the rear of the WEC on the WEC premises. To access this, turn into the road at the transmission mast – on the lock side – and park your car in the disabled parking space halfway along the building. There are also two disabled parking spaces opposite Schierzicht in the harbour.

By Bus

Bussen kunnen niet op het terrein van het WEC worden geparkeerd. Op dit moment zijn er gratis parkeerplaatsen voor bussen bij de vertrekhal van de veerdienst naar Schiermonnikoog naast Restaurant Waddengenot. Hier kunnen bussen kort worden geparkeerd. Ook kunnen bussen geparkeerd worden aan de westkant van de Cleveringsluizen bij Lauwersoog.

The bus driver can drop passengers off at the harbour, near Restaurette Schierzicht. Passengers can then walk to the entrance of the WEC in a few minutes. The bus driver can then park the bus in one of the above-mentioned car parks. From there, it is also a short walk to the WEC.

WEC site

The WEC's own grounds are a pedestrian area. No cars or buses may be parked here. Only the two WEC cars are allowed here for quick exit for seal care.
