The WEC is thé place to experience the Wadden area. It is more than a building in Lauwersoog; it is the workplace of the Wadden, where researchers, residents and entrepreneurs work together. Visitors can marvel at the interactive Wadden Sea Experience including seal hospital and discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site in a whole new way. You can watch, learn and experience for yourself how the Wadden Sea area is explored and protected, while enjoying panoramic views.

At the WEC, you can see scientists and seal caretakers at work, participate in an interactive experience and learn about the natural processes that give the Wadden Sea its UNESCO status. You will also discover human's influence on this unique ecosystem and can participate in activities yourself.

Lauwersoog is at the interface between culture and nature and offers the perfect location to experience the Wadden area. Here, the balance between man and nature becomes directly visible and tangible, contributing to awareness of the importance of this unique area.

Yes, the WEC has a broad educational offer. In the interactive experience, children learn playfully about the ecology of the Wadden Sea and the importance of nature conservation. The ticket prices for the WEC are as follows:

• Volwassenen: €18,95 aan de kassa, €17,95 online
• Kinderen: €16,95 aan de kassa, € 15,95 online

The Wadden Sea experience is ticketed, but the ground floor, including the research areas, shop and catering, is free to all visitors. Go to this page for more ticket information.

Yes, there are lockers in the WEC. These are free to use.

It is possible to change your baby at the WEC. A room is available on the ground floor for this purpose.

Ja, het WEC is volledig rolstoelvriendelijk en heeft aangepaste voorzieningen voor bezoekers met beperkte mobiliteit. Ons team helpt graag waar nodig. Lees here meer over toegankelijkheid.

Het WEC beschikt over een ruime lift die toegang biedt tot alle verdiepingen van het gebouw. De routes door de Waddenzee Experience zijn volledig drempelloos en breed genoeg om comfortabel met een rolstoel, kleine scootmobiel of kinderwagen te kunnen navigeren. Het WEC is volledig rolstoeltoegankelijk. Je kunt zonder problemen de hoofdentree gebruiken, waar ruime doorgangen zijn voorzien. Ook kleine scootmobiels zijn toegestaan in alle delen van het WEC, inclusief de Waddenzee Experience. Kinderwagens zijn uiteraard ook welkom. Klik here voor meer informatie over toegankelijkheid.

If you cannot move through the WEC independently because of a disability, you may bring a companion. The companion may enter free of charge. You can easily arrange this by dropping by reception on arrival.

Specially trained assistance dogs, such as guide dogs for the blind and Stichting Hulphond-dogs, are welcome to accompany you during your visit. Due to the possible spread of diseases between dogs and seals, it is important that you consult with our staff in advance. Assistance dogs are allowed in most of the WEC, but unfortunately not at the outdoor seal pools, to ensure the health of both your dog and the seals.

Two adapted toilets are available. One on the ground floor and one on the second floor. Both toilets are easily accessible from all parts of the building.

Er is een invalidenparkeerplaats beschikbaar aan de achterkant van het WEC op het terrein van het WEC. Je kunt hiervoor de weg inrijden bij de zendmast – aan de sluiskant – en halverwege het gebouw op de invalidenparkeerplaats de auto parkeren. Ook zijn er twee invalidenparkeerplaatsen tegenover Schierzicht in de haven.

Bussen kunnen niet op het terrein van het WEC worden geparkeerd. Op dit moment zijn er gratis parkeerplaatsen voor bussen bij de vertrekhal van de veerdienst naar Schiermonnikoog naast Restaurant Waddengenot. Hier kunnen bussen kort worden geparkeerd. Ook kunnen bussen geparkeerd worden aan de westkant van de Cleveringsluizen bij Lauwersoog. De buschauffeur kan de reizigers afzetten in de haven, bij Restaurette Schierzicht. De passagiers wandelen dan in enkele minuten naar de ingang van het WEC. De buschauffeur kan vervolgens de bus parkeren op een van bovenstaande parkeerplaatsen. • Groups must register well in advance via groepen@ontdekwec.nl.
• Group tickets will be sent digitally beforehand or will be ready for collection at the ticket desk.
• Outdoor activities must be booked in advance.
• A reduced entry fee to the WEC applies when taking part in an outdoor activity.
• If a group wishes to visit the WEC after an outdoor activity, members can purchase an adjusted ticket at the ticket desk.

• A visit to the Wadden Sea Experience takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
• Shorter, customised visits are possible by arrangement.
• From the roof of the WEC, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view over two National Parks and the Wadden Sea, with a view of Schiermonnikoog.

The WEC offers a range of activities, including:

• Guided tours
• Dagelijkse activiteiten in het WEC, zoals Zeehondenpraatjes van de zorgmedewerkers

• Groepsticket (vanaf 15-24 personen): 10% korting aan de balie
• Arrangement op maat: Voor groepen vanaf 25 personen is een arrangement mogelijk met koffie/thee, lunch, borrel of diner, een rondleiding door het WEC en een outdoor activiteit (boottocht, gids en meer). Beschikbaar op aanvraag via groepen@ontdekwec.nl.

The programme starts at 10:00 am. Other times are possible by arrangement.

In samenwerking met IVN bieden we educatieve programma’s en activiteiten aan in en buiten het WEC voor primair en voortgezet onderwijs. Voor verschillende pakketten kun je je klas al aanmelden.

• Met de auto: Het WEC ligt in de haven Lauwersoog en is goed bereikbaar met de auto. De haven ligt aan de N361, die Groningen met Lauwersoog verbindt. Vanuit Friesland kun je via de N358 en de N361 eenvoudig de haven bereiken. Als je bij Lauwersoog aankomt, volg je de borden WEC Parkeren. Het parkeerterreinplaats ligt aan de andere kant van de dijk dan het WEC. Parkeren in de vishaven is niet toegestaan.
• By bus: Pupils can be dropped off in front of the WEC. Buses can park at the temporary bus parking area by the ferry to Schiermonnikoog or at the site by the lock towards Dokkum.
